Frequently asked questions

Are you insured to complete our project?

Yes, we are a fully insured company with liability insurance. We can show you all our certificates if you wish to see them.

Are there any types of guarantees associated with your services?

Yes. All of our work comes equipped with a comprehensive five-year warranty. However, we are also pleased to be able to provide our customers with an optional warranty of ten years upon request.

How long will it take for you to complete an entire patio?

We cannot give you a definite time frame until we see how big your garden is and what you would like us to do with it. Some gardens can take a week while others will take longer. We would love to come round and give you a quote on your patio and then we can let you know how long it will take to finish.

There is a good deal of uneven terrain on my property. Can you deal with this issue?

All of our block paving techniques employ a concrete base underneath the finished product. Not only is this important for aesthetics, but you can enjoy greater levels of stability on uneven surfaces.

Do you have any examples of previous landscaping work that you have performed?

Yes. We are proud to display a handful of designs and projects that we have completed over the years. Please refer to our landscaping gallery to view some examples.

I hope to have decking built within my back garden. Can you provide a design based upon my desires?

We are always happy to meet your demands and specific tastes. Our design team will survey your property and provide you with a detailed proposal. This enables us to address the current theme of your home while simultaneously tackling the project in a flexible manner.

I own a farm in Essex and have been searching for a company that can supply me with agricultural fencing. Can you accommodate this need?

Our technicians are quite familiar with this sector and can offer you a number of different options. Examples here can include timber posts, chain links and stock fencing. We will help you to determine which type is the best during our on-site survey.

Is there any way that I am able to read about the experiences of previous clients?

Allison Paving is happy to provide you with numerous client reviews to appreciate the quality of our services. Please take some time and read through our testimonials page to learn more.

I have had issues with patios cracking in the past. How can you address this?

Before the first stone is laid, our technicians will dig foundations as deep as 200 millimetres when required. A concrete base of up to ten centimetres will then be poured to provide superior levels of stability. Finally, kiln-cured sand is placed between the stones to ensure a tight fit.

How should paving flags be laid?

Typically Natural Stone Paving and Wet Cast Paving should be laid rigidly (mortar bed and joints).

Hydraulically pressed concrete flags can be laid either rigidly or flexibly (sand bed and joints).

Should I seal my paving?

Marshalls as a company believe it is not necessary to seal our paving. This is due to many factors, the reasons being amongst others that:

  • Sealants have to be applied to a surface which is clean, dry & free from dust.
  • Sealants may affect the appearance of the units and wear unevenly.

For further information please contact the Technical Advisory team or click on the Live Chat button now.

Which flags are slip resistant?

All our paving is slip resistant provided that the units are maintained at the required intervals to prevent them from potentially becoming slippy with a surface build up of dirt, detritus and algae for example.

Can I lay blocks over an existing tarmac/concrete?

It is possible to lay block paving over an existing tarmac or concrete base, however the existing base must be in a sound condition, free from cracks, not breaking up or spalling.

What are the two recommended methods of flag installation?

Flexible (sand) and Rigid (mortar)

For further information please contact the Technical Advisory team or click on the Live Chat button now.

Which flags are suitable to be laid on a ramp?

Any of our pressed concrete paving flags or Natural Stone flags are suitable for use on a ramp.

Also Barfaced paving is designed specifically for this purpose as the units have slightly raised bars on the surface to provide extra grip under foot.
